ProfileThose with long memories will remember Earl as a steady first team medium pace bowler.

Earl left the club and had a spell at Wearmouth, but in his forties he was persuaded to return to the Village when we were looking for a second team skipper.

His bowling days were behind him, but he quickly made the position his own, and played a key role in developing a number of the current first team squad.

The hard work paid off in 2005, when he led a side which included Peter Marshall, Ross Carty, Tony Greaves, Michael Turns and Eden Elstob to the second team championship.

Well past his 50th birthday Earl stepped down from Saturday cricket, but continues to do a good job skippering the third string on a Wednesday night.
